While Halloween gets most of the attention in October, this month carries a much deeper meaning for many people since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month.

To mark the occasion, Campus Life teamed up with LIU Radio and the Student Nursing Association to raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which is a part of the American Cancer Society.

At the event, visitors who entered the Paramount gym found a pink carpet that led them to a raffle booth where students had the opportunity to win a pair of Beats speakers and headphones.

They were also invited to sign a poster dedicated to those affected by Breast Cancer. But the fundraising efforts didn’t stop there.

Along with the raffle, students sold shirts marked “Hope Fight Cure” next to the LIU Brooklyn logo. They were also selling burgers and shakes from Smashburger.

Although this was a fundraiser, it also helped educate women on how to self-examine their breasts for any lumps.

At the fundraiser, Abalos provided free bread samples, from blueberry lemon to pumpkin spice.

Abalos says that she started her business with the hopes of expanding vegan options “so that everybody can enjoy it, [including people who might have] lactose problems or want baked goods without all the excess stuff.”

While the event had some fun and games, the overall goal was to promote and fundraise for the Breast Cancer walk that many from LIU Brooklyn will attend.
