The Blackbirds men’s basketball team has clinched a Northeast Conference tournament birth for the third straight season after defeating last year’s raining NEC champions, the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights by a final score of 75-69 on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
Senior guard Iverson Flemming led the Blackbirds with 13 points and pulled down four rebounds.
Senior forward Nura Zana finished the contest with 10 points and six rebounds.
Senior forward Jerome Frink and sophomore guard Raiquan Clark both added 12 points each.
Head Coach Jack Perri said, “There’s still four games left and we really wanted to win this game for a lot of different reasons. Obviously they’re one game ahead of us in the standings, we wanted to make a move and go up in the standings rather than going and go up in the standings rather than going backwards. Our guys really stepped up.”

With this win, the Blackbirds now improve to an overall record of 16-11 and 9-5 in conference play this season. They are now tied for second place with Fairleigh Dickinson in the Northeast Conference standings.
The Blackbirds will head across the street to their next-door neighbors, St. Francis for the Battle of the Boroughs on for the Battle of the Boroughs on Wednesday Feb. 15 at 6:00 P.M.
They will return back home to the Steinberg Wellness Center on Saturday Feb. 18 for an afternoon matchup with Sacred Heart University.
